After a long hiatus, anime

So thanks to one of my big brothers I got back into watching anime again, and I thought I'd start recording the anime I'm watching here - maybe with some (very very) brief reviews - or at least how I felt about them. We'll see how long I can keep it up.

Hopefully this blog will be a 'reservoir' for what are my favourites and what changes over the next few months and years.
I'm also reading lots of manga, as so many anime finish without the big finale, or completing the story. Also anime because of their medium often remove story lines, especially the longer ones, e.g. Skip Beat!, so reading the manga often fills in gaps and builds on loved character profiles.

So Easter just finished and I was back at work today, but I did spend a lot of time watching anime over the weekend - both starting some series and finishing others.

Easter anime

"That smile was like the sun on a hot summer day... with eyes like ice."

I really loved this anime. It could have gone so horribly wrong, but didn't. The animation was great, characters had real depth and the soundtrack was awesome. Themes of light and darkness, fire and ice, run through the entire series, and the terror the 'terrorists' inflicted upon the world is reflected in smaller but no less terrifying ways in the world around them.
And even if I saw it coming, I still cried.

(aka Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko - Everything Flows)
A short 4 part anime with amazing depth and narrated by the neko. Heart warming and real.

What I'm listening to at the moment...

Went to the nin concert in Auckland earlier this year... where the boys played this song...
B&S bought me tickets for my birthday - I love you guys.

BTW: Thank You TR for the gift of your music - gotten me through some hard/rough/interesting times (and that's interesting in the chinese proverb kind of way)

I like my comfort zone...

I recently (last year) added this quote to one of my alternative blogs

Life is full of opportunities and staying in your comfort zone isn't one of them.

Take a leap of faith, commit to seeing life as an adventure and a journey, not a destination...

Don't be so afraid of making a mistake that you never get to enjoy all that's on offer.

However i have decided that that is such a crock... I like my comfort zone and most of time I choose not to do things - not so I won't make a mistake but because I can't afford to... either professionally, mentally/psychologically or financially.

e.g. If I really told some of the people at work exactly what i thought, I might very well not have a job to go back too... also I have enough to handle with the stuff that's going on in my personal life without adding stress and conflict at work - it is just NOT worth it sometimes to be assertive or outgoing.

Oh well... maybe I am just a coward - but at least a coward with cause!

Plus I already see life as a journey and an adventure - how could you not? I have always preferred the journey and not so much the destination anyway! Especially when you are talking about life - If it really is a journey the final destination is death... not the most inspiring destination.
